LAST UPDATE DECEMBER 3rd 2010               *** Nielsen on sale??? Click here! ***

Welcome to the website of the Nielsen Company employees! Our goal is to create here a place where to voice our opinions together, share ideas and information, draw strength from our past experiences.

Nielsen's research on households future: bread and water

The Nielsen Company is a multinational, leader in market research. In 2006 the company was acquired by a consortium of private equity funds, which, in order to maximize profits, started a process of globalisation that will gradually lead to a worldwide reorganization and optimization of work. Due to a contract signed with TCS (Tata Consultancy Services), some activities of the Nielsen company have been gradually outsourced to India and Hungary where labour costs are much more less and rights of workers are weaker.
The entire process of cost reduction is being handled by Mitchell Habib (...ever searched him in the most popular search engine???) hired on purpose by Nielsen. Habib is already known for renewing companies by implementing mass dismissals, cancelling contracts with small satellite companies in favour of TCS and outsourcing work to countries with low labour cost.

The immediate and dramatic effects of these business logics are a series of traumatic initiatives for the employees, their families and the local population, improving the economic slump:

    • 12th May 2008 - Staff mobility procedure, with lay-offs of 27 employees
    • 14th April 2010 - Announcement of a new staff mobility procedure, to lay-off another 30 employees

In such a crucial circumstance it is of the utmost importance to understand what is happening both here in Italy and worldwide, we must not let ourselves be overwhelmed by the events. That's what we are trying to do. On this website we have gathered material that documents the beginning of our protest. But our project is more ambitious.
We want this site to become a meeting point for all those who wish to participate and contribute with ideas, information, news and remarks.

Why thethankyoucompany.org ? It is an answer to this video, where the most important Nielsen managers thank the company, for which they feel a deep sense of belonging. This is our way of saying thanks, even if we don't have many reasons to be grateful!

Anyone wishing to collaborate, give us their ideas, suggestions, recommendations or simply be part of our initiative can contact us at info@thethankyoucompany.org

We're looking for people who might help us translating this website in English or any other European language. Making our page international is fundamental so that our colleagues worldwide can join us, and this will strengthen our initiative. Anyone who wishes to participate, even for a small part, can drop an email to this address.

    Thank you!
